Black Crusade - Midas Prime

270313.M41
Black Legion vs Dark Angels.

The sudden arrival of the Black Legion into the Midas Sector has thrown the balance of power. The Dark Angels deployed to the surface of Midas Prime under heavy anti-air fire and assaulted those bases that the Black Legion had occupied. The battle was long ans severe as both sides fought through the ruined streets surrounding the firebase. It was however the Black Legion, newly arrived and fully supplied, that managed to win the conflict. When the Dark Angels withdrew the traitor forces pushed forward and annihilated the Imperial front lines, recapturing territory lost weeks earlier.

On Infernus, Kor Aven gloated at the reversal of Imperial fortune and plotted how to remove the Black Legion after they had performed their task.

Chaos Fights Back - Midas Prime

260313.M41
Black Legion vs Sons of Tantalus

From the depths of the Warp they came, vessels of the Black Legion summoned by Kor Aven to assist in the retaking of Midas Prime. Two vessels, Acheron heavy cruisers, translated into the system and opened fire on the Imperial fleet in orbit. Two vessels, including the Warmasters own ship, were forced to withdraw taking heavy damage. Both chaos vessels entered low orbit before disgorging dreadclaws and aging stormbirds to the surface, and then heading out of the system in the confusion. Immediately orders were dispatched by the Warmaster to the nearest space marine battle barges to deploy their forces in order to stop the reinforcements reaching the besieged Word Bearers.

The space marines deployed from orbit and began a hunt for the traitor forces. The Sons of Tantalus located one landing site in the ruins of the capital hive and deployed in a capture formation. The dark and moonless night made it difficult to detect the Black Legion marines among the ruins. The Sons took heavy casualties before destroying the squads they had located. Elsewhere though the chaos marines were able to escape detection and bolster the Word Bearers forces.

Slave Raid - Bantis V

220313.M41
Dark Eldar vs Sons of Tantalus

The stalemate between four mighty powers has lasted far too long. Thus far, no one has done anything more than occasional raids and random shots into enemy territory. The dread lords of Commorragh demand more sacrifices and slaves to battle in their arenas of pain. The archon known as T'ate steps up the plate and promises the greatest bounty ever provided by the Midas sector.
T'ate launches a mighty raiding fleet to the world of Bantis V, dispatching attack wings to assault all those present upon this world. T'ate herself leads the attack on the Imperial forces recently bolstered by the Sons of Tantalus. It has been too long since the oversized mon'keigh fought for the amusement of the dark eldar.
The battle was brief though the space marines put up a fight worthy of legend. The guidence of the Emperor was not with them this night and the foul xenos slaughtered or captured them them with no remorse. The chapter lost many good men this day.
Bantis V has proven too costly to maintain now for the Imperium and following this defeat, the survivours have retreated to the fleet above Midas Prime to recover and resupply.

Amarok Arises! - Rakdos

220313.M41
Blood Angels vs Tyranids

The relative peace and quiet of the Perseus sector has been broken. Bioships from Hive Fleet Amarok have drifted into the Rakdos system and bio-organisms now swarm the outer worlds. A weak distress signel from the dominant world of the system was intercepted by a flotilla of Blood Angels marines en route to the Midas sector. Diverting to the system they engaged the bioships and deployed ground troops to stem the tide.
The Blood Angels proved too few to stem the tide, their hit and run tactics unable to prevent the monster's advance. Vastly outnumbered the marines have been forced back to the extensive Galaric mines which have proved far more defensible. The flotilla has left the system for neirghbouring worlds seeking guard assistance for the forces on the ground.
But for now, Hive Fleet Amarok has found a new system to devour.

Cleanse! - Volistad

180313.M41
Sons of Tantalus / Dark Angels vs Orks.

With help finally reaching Volistad, Commisar Holt dispatched the Ultramarines to attack the vital space port. To keep the orks busy and off balance, he sent the Sons of Tantalus and Dark Angels to assault the ork bases in the old factorum district.
Though initially taken by surprise the orks rallied faster than was expected. The space marines found themselves under heavy fire both from the ground and from the air. No one knew that the orks had brought aircraft with them to Volistad!
Despite a heroic battle the forces of the space marines were forced to treat under a growing tide of greenskins!

Elsewhere the Ultramarines faired little better and their attempt to recapture the spaceport failed. In retaliation the orks surged forward though the PDF lines and now head for the populated hive cities.

The war for Volistad does not go well. While Commissar Holt waits impatiently for reinforcements to arrive from the Midas Sector, the planet's planetary overlord is making tactical mistakes that could cost him the war.
Help for the planet must arrive soon.

Victory Looms! - Midas Prime

110313.M41
Ultramarines vs Word Bearers / Chaos Daemons.

The war for Midas Prime has dragged on for three long months. Short by many Imperial conflicts but long enough that Warmaster Xerxes was growing impatient. His advisors and regiment commanders suggested that the quickest route to a decisive victory was to stage an assault on their main base spearheaded by whichever space marine chapter was willing to assist. Kill the traitor commanders to sow confusion while the Imperial Guard dealt with the remaining ground forces. The Ultramarines stepped up to the plate.

As night fell over Tempesta Hive the night sky was lit by the glow of drop pods and thunderhawk transporters, followed by mass anti-air fire from the surface. The space marines lost few men and landed in just the right place to disable the flak cannons before fighting their way into the hive.

What they encountered were Word Bearers supported by the summoned horrors of the Warp. The Ultramarines fought with bolter and chainsword in the ruined streets of the hive city while the Imperial Guard regiments of the Cadian XXIII followed up from the Imperial lines. The space marines made light work of their foe and executed Kor Aven's generals and dark apostles. With the effective leadership gone the traitor marines were made light work of by the Imperial forces.

By dawn Tempesta Hive was in Imperial hands, and the forces of Chaos pushed back to their mountain fortresses along the northern polar regions.

Elsewhere in the sector, the forces of Chaos battle the various alien threats that have been drawn to the growing conflict. The way things are going the Imperium may have need to drive the xenos out of the sector after the aliens destroy Chaos.

The Scouring - Voidspar

040313.M41
Chaos Daemons vs Craftworld Iyanden

Over the last few days whisps of Midas warp storm have rematerialised throughout the sector, throwing Imperial ships adrift and for several days isolating worlds closer to the core of the sector. Upon Voidspar the Word Bearers used this to their benefit. Their dark apostles raised a mighty army of daemons to throw against the orks.
As the world trembled and awoke under the warping aura of Chaos there came an unexpected salvation. Stable webway portals opened and disgorged the largest Eldar war host to appear in the Midas sector. The Eldar set to eradicating the daemonic presence and their traitor marine masters.
Though it took several days of heavy fighting in the chaotic wastes and the animated ruins of Imperial cities, the Eldar destroyed the host and turned on the Word Bearers. By the end of the conflict, the Chaos forces were destroyed and the Eldar held significant territory on Voidspar.

The Volistad Campaign Begins - Volistad

Almost a week after leaving orbit above Midas Prime the Imperial cruiser Hammer of Faith arrives in orbit of Volistad. They find the planet swarming with orks with the majority of the PDF located in the hive capital. Commissar Holt recieves his orders for the initial assault. A landing site must be taken in order for the retaking of the planet to begin.
