Tau Expansion Crushed! - Urbis III

300513.M41
Blood Angels vs Tau Empire

The wrath of the Imperium has descended upon the Tau at Urbis III. Following their defeat at the hands of the Sons of Tantalus, the Tau had retreated to regroup and try again. The Blood Angels then dropped from the sky on pillars of flame like the warrior angels of old.

The first target was the landing site, where the brothers of the third company crippled the Tau aircraft, preventing their escape from Urbis III. The first and second companies attacked the remaining Tau forces, trapping them in the mega highway between two of the larger hive cities and utterly annihilating them.

The planetary govenor has ordered a day of celebration in the name of the Emperor for the liberation of the planet. The space marines however do not believe that the Tau will abandon this world. They will be back, and in greater numbers.

New Rivalry - Illiad

300513.M41
Chaos Daemons vs Death Guard / Chaos Daemons.

For some weeks Typhus has sat aboard his personal cruiser, the Terminus Est, watching the crusade ebb and flow across the sector, content to watch and learn. Finally he determined that it was time to test the resolve of the Word Bearers.

A company of his finest warriors, accompanied by a host of snarling daemons deployed to the surface. For a time they watched and picked their target, a construction site where the Word Bearers where building a shrine to the Ruinious Powers. The Word Bearers present had been expecting an attack, from the Black Legion rather than Death Guard, and summoned a daemonic force of their own.

The two forces clashed on the outskirts, while the Word Bearers watched on, waiting for their summoned horrors to slaughter the enemy. The Death Guard, though resilient and capable, could not stop the ferocious counter attack. Their daemons banished, the Death Guard retreated into the wastes to regroup.

Meanwhile, above in orbit, Typhus turned his ship about and set course for Infernus. He and the upstart Kor Aven would decide which servants of Chaos would rule the Midas Sector.

Tau Reinforcements Defeated - Arathis Secundus

270513.M41
Tau Empire vs Necrons.

The Tau fleet reached Arathis Secudus far too late to aid their forces on the surface. They deployed to the surface and found a landing site in ruins. In the hours in took to search the complex the commander identified the damage as coming from Necron weaponry. Moments later the scouts report in the sudden appearence of a Necron force in the ice wastes outside the complex.

The Tau manned the defences and battlesuits opened fire. The enemy took heavy casualties but for every warrior felled two repaired and joined the fight. As the Necron warriors reached the walls, a great howl went up over the sound of the battle, and an aspect of the C'Tan materialised over the battlefield. Descending into the Tau ranks it slaughtered a host of the fire warriors. Nothing the tau brought to bare even touched the avatar.

As the Tau commander fell, the Necrons took up control of the facility, turning their eyes on the Imperial forces just miles away to the south.

From Beneath The Ice - Arathis Secundus

260513.M41
Necrons vs Tau Empire.

The war on Arathis Secundus continued without success for either the Imperium or the Tau Empire, though largely dominated by raids by the Dark Angels chapter. When reports stopped coming in from the distant Tau outposts, the Imperial commanders assumed that they had the xenos on the run. Little did they know that the ancient enemy had awoken beneath the ice.

The Tau commander was loath to divert much needed troops to investigate the loss of two outposts. It was just the Imperium testing themselves against unimportant targets. Unfortunately he was quite wrong about the threat behind the Tau lines. A long forgotten Necron outpost lay in the deep ocean beneath the silent outposts and they had awoken and laid waste to the interlopers above.

When the machine army appeared on the horizon, the commander sent a battle force to contain the threat. They never returned. Attacking across the ice plains the Necrons launched their assault at dawn, catching the majority of the Tau off guard. Very quickly they neutralised the battle suit formations, the biggest threat they face. The Tau were forced into retreat straight towards the Imperial lines.

The Imperial force thinking themselves under attack launched a devastating salvo which finished off the survivours. All the watch stations saw in the aftermath was an odd green glow on the horizon that slowly faded away in the light of day.

Tau Defeated - Urbis III

230513.M41
Sons of Tantalus vs Tau Empire.

On Urbis III the local planetary defence forces were being pummelled hard by the Tau invaders. The Imperial command present was fearful that if something wasn't done to stop their advance then the whole planet would fall in a matter of months, if not weeks. The presence of a Tau fleet in orbit made getting help difficult at best. However, they had not been forgotten by Xerxes. A battle barge from the Sons of Tantalus chapter translated into the system and was able to drop a company by drop pod to the surface before being forced to flee by the Tau fleet.

The Sons of Tantalus dropped into the Tau held space port outside the ruined city of Urbis Primary, and immediately set to harassing the Tau emplacements. The strike was enacted in three stages. The first hit the command compound to eliminate the Tau leadership. The second struck their supply yards, destroying tanks and munitions. The third hit the space port directly. Outnumbered and with loss of communications, the Tau paniced. What little Resistance remained the space marines dispatched with extreme prejudice.

One incidence occurred at the space port that marked the battle as highly unusual. A squad of black armoured marines bearing the icons of the Legion of the Damned materialised from the warp and assisted in the destruction of a Riptide class walker. These phantom marines faded away moments before the end of the battle. This is the first recorded appearance of these mystery figures during the Midas Crusade.

The action was a total success and the remaining Tau are now hold up in their landing site a hundred kilometres from the hive city. If these forces can be excised then the Imperium only has to deal with the Tau fleet in orbit.

A War of Angels - Minora IV

230513.M41
Dark Angels vs Blood Angels.

The Imperial push to capture strategic objectives on the fallen forge world has begun with a strong offensive. The raids have caused significant damage to operational factorum's under Dark Mechanicus control, and the major engagements have taken place in the ruins of those facilities.

Leading the attacks were companies from both the Dark Angels and Blood Angels chapters. These in turn were supported by three regiments of Imperial Guard drawn from the Cadian and Mordian forces on Minora IV, as well as extensive air support. The Imperial Navy quickly established total air superiority over the targets and flights of marauder bombers to deliver their payloads with minimal losses.

The Dark Mechanicus had not fallen without a trick up their sleeve. Scattered throughout the factorum facilities were canisters of chemical weapons, many of them capable of driving a man insane, firing on his "allies". One such booby trap triggered as the space marines cleansed the last target. The chemical weapons ate through the softer parts of the marines' armour allowing the mind-effecting cocktail to reach the respirators. The space marines turned on one another, chapter vs chapter, with savagery normally reserved for the enemy.

When the effects finally dissipated, both chapters had sustained terrible losses and were forced to retreat from the battlefield. The Imperial Guard regiments mopped up any remaining enemy resistance and prepared to mov on to their next target.

New Offensive Falters - Illiad

230513.M41
Imperial Guard / Necrons vs Chaos Daemons.

On Illiad the Imperium has attempted a new offensive to weaken the traitor forces closer to the crusade on Minora IV. Attempted scout attempts through the ruins have met with setbacks and the loss of valuable soldiers. The biggest setback has been the discovery of a Necron force on Illiad that had been unknown previously.

The Imperial Guard have been forced into engaging the machines for control of three key sectors needed to engage the forces of Chaos. The most important of which is the Hyralan sector which is closest to the traitor defences. Both sides have engaged in hit and run attacks against the other but to little real gain.

Three days ago the situation changed with the Word Bearers, well aware of the fighting just leagues from their position, dispatched a daemon host to destroy both forces. Forced to band together for survival, the Imperial Guard and Necrons fought as desperate allies. Weakened by their own conflict they were unable to stop the daemonic host and within hours the new Imperial push had faltered.

The Battle for Valley Forge - Minora IV

230513.M41
Dark Angels vs Black Legion.

Imperial troops on Minora IV have pushed forward into enemy territory and have captured a number of factorum facilities. The Adeptus Mechanicum have repeatedly requested that the army be redirected to capture a Titan facility known as the Valley Forge but other concerns have seen their request frequently ignored. In order to prove their loyalty to the crusade following recent events, the Dark Angels offered their services to recpature the factorum.

Deploying mainly from the ground, the Dark Angels overcame any cultist sentries and surrounded the facility with two companies of marines. Once everything was in place they attacked, smashing aside the facilities' defences. Once within the facility complex the Dark Angels encountered their true target: the Black Legion.

The traitor garrison did not stand a chance and was quickly cut down though they had set demolitions charges that caused massive damage to the facility. The Mechanicus have moved in swiftly to begin repairs and re-consecrate the facility to the Omnissiah.

Imperial Forces Evacuate - Bantis V

220513.M41
Craftworld Iyanden vs Sons of Tantalus.

The struggle for power on the distant world of Bantis V has shifted. As more and more Imperial troops are evacuated to fight on Menora IV the lines have shrunk. Now they suffer constant attack from the Eldar and have been forced to retreat to the original land sites. Sensing victory at hand, the Eldar of craftworld Iyanden strike as the last few transports leave for orbit. Only the might of the space marines stands in their way.

The Eldar are not fools. They take a defensive position knowing that the space marines will bring the fight to them and die in the process. The Sons of Tantalus play into the alien's hands and charge forth across a killing ground, taking horrendous losses. They do not even get close, cut down at distance by massed firepower and D-Cannon emplacements.

The last of the Imperial troops escape but the space marines do not, buying time with their lives. Now Iyanden only has to contend with their piratical brethren for control of the Bantis system.

The Sky Full of Stars - Minora IV

"The sky was full of stars...and every star an exploding ship."

180513.M41
Imperial Navy / Space Marines vs Word Bearers Chaos Fleet.

Kor Aven dispatches a fleet of warships to assist in the "liberation" of Minora IV from the hands of the Imperium. Translating into the system the main fleet lead by the Desolator class battleship Misericorde headed straight for the Imperial ships in high orbit while a host of Infidel class raiders moved to harass the smaller escorts and patrol ships.

Battle barges from both Raven Guard and White Panthers moved ahead to engage the oncoming ships while the rest of the Imperial fleet came about. Two Imperial Gothic Class cruisers, the Indomitable Spirit and the Sword of Mecharius, were destroyed in the first volley. The Imperial captains ordered their ships into close proximity to force the enemy the risk of striking their own ships.

Fighters launched, dogfighting in and around the larger capital ships. The turning point came when the badly wounded Overlord class battle cruiser Sword of Damocles performed a suicidal ram into the side of the Misericorde. The Imperial vessel was killed in the impact but the Word Bearers flagship was all but crippled. Without her impressive support the rest of the traitor fleet fled back into the warp. As the Imperial captains closed in for the kill, the Misericorde ignited her warp engines and fled. The resulting translation obliterated two Imperial vessels as she went.

Although the traitor fleet had failed in it's attempt, the Imperial fleet in orbit above Minora IV was badly hurt in the conflict. Neither side had achieved any semblance of victory.

Butlerian Strikes His Prey! - Fangol

"There is no place for the weakwilled or hesitant. Only by firm action and resolute faith will mankind survive. No sacrifice is too great. No treachery too small." - Inquisitor Mannus.

160513.M41
Penitent Angels / Inquisition vs Grey Knights.

Inquisitor Lord Butlerian's agents have been hard at work and the secret base of the Penitent Angels has been found on the edge of the Fangol system. Butlerian takes to the field with his Grey Knights to capture and/or kill Inquisitor Mannus.

The Grey Knights deploy initially by teleportation into the enemy base, and while the Penitent Angels attempt to hold them off, the rest deploy via Stormraven to the surface. Most do not make it, shot down by quadcannons across the fortifications, which deplays the main attack.

Eventually the two Inquisitors engage in a vicious battle while the conflict rages around them. Butlerian strikes down his former acolyte with a mighty blow but before he can deliver the kill, Mannus and the Penitent Angels are teleported from the battlefield by their battle barge in orbit. Mannus and his followers escape into the warp before a retaliation can be organised.

Scouring the secret base, Butlerian finds the hidden library including the Tome of Fire. He orders it all destroyed and deploys his agents to find Mannus once again.

Purge The Corrupt! - Minora IV

140513.M41
Imperial Guard vs Grey Knights.

Five months into the crusade and the Imperial troops have seen horrors enough to freeze the blood of a lesser man. Enough horrors that Inquisitor Lord Butlerian has taken a notice of communications from the troops deployed on Minora IV. Already in a foul mood over failing to capture his rival Inquisitor Mannus, Butlerian declares that a number of regiments fighting on the fallen forge world have seen too much and must be purged!

The Grey Knights deployed into the midst of the Cadian regiment and started to execute the troopers. It took a few minutes for the troopers to recover and retaliate, fearing they were under attack by some new band of traitor marines. Artillery and weapon stockpiles were destroyed to prevent a counter attack and then the Grey Knights targeted the Cadian leadership.

The battle came to a head after three hours when both sides received orders to hold fire and retreat. The details of what occurred had reached Warmaster Xerxes and he pulled favours to countermand Butlerians orders. The two spat threats over the command table before Butlerian acquiesced and ordered a cease fire.

The Grey Knights gathered their fallen and teleported back to their battle barge, and the Cadians counted their dead. The battle may have ended now but Xerxes knows fall well that the troopers under his command may not survive to return home if Butlerian ever gets to have his way.

The Battle of Outpost 42 - Minora IV

140513.M41
Blood Angels / Craftworld Alaitoc vs Chaos Daemons

"What you call the Norkon Massacres commander, my people called the Norkon campaign. One people's butcher is another people's hero." - Farseer Taloq, Craftworld Alaitoc.

Not all the Craftworlds agree with the actions and divinations of Craftworld Iyanden. The Farseers of Alaitoc have forseen a greater threat than the Necrons for this region of space, and have made tentative approaches towards the Imperium. They have supplied vital strike locations against the Chaos forces still holding Minoras IV and offered their aid against them. After discussing this with his captains, Dante agrees to the temporary alliance.

The Blood Angels deploy from orbit into the ruins of remote Outpost 42, while the Eldar strike ahead using their Webway portals. The chaos space marines have left to bolster the Dark Mechanicus strongholds but they left a surprise in the shape of a daemonic horde.

The allied force poured themselves into the fray, slaughtering lesser daemons by the thousand to reach the centre of the facility. It was then that the might of a triad of greater daemons and daemon princes arose from warp concealed locations and smote their path through Eldar and battle brother alike. After taking casualties on the initial push neither side could resist the rampage of the favoured daemons and had to retreat.

The Eldar left without word and Dante ponders whether this was a ploy of the farseers after all, to weaken the Imperial advance across the cursed Forge World?

Tau Expansion Continues - Arathis Secundus

0900513.M41
Dark Angels vs Tau Empire.

The Tau have opened up a secton front, this time in the Arathis system. Drawn by the Imperial distress signal the xenos have found a cold and inhospital world. The commanders see it as a vital point from which to launch an attack on Arathis Prime and from there the neighbouring systems.

However, the Tau will have to fight to take this world. The Dark Angels chapter has been deployed to crush the initial invasion before it starts. Deploying quickly the Dark Angels moved to assault before the Tau could mount a suitable defence but the alien was prepared for this, and the initial wave of deathwing bikers died under heavy railgun fire.

The battle swung between the two foes but the space marines suffered terrible losses from the forces arrayed against them. Thankfully, the Tau had taken major casualties too so neither side was ever in a position to retaliate. This has meant that the Tau and the Imperium has had the time to bolster defences and prepare for a long protracted conflict.

When Imperial soldiers entered the lone outpost they found no operators, just a repeating signal calling for help. With the Tau a more pressing concern the details of the outpost have been forgotten.

Far below the ice something stirs. Flickering green glows eminate from beneath the ice and a force thought contained in the Midas Sector turns its gaze to the surface.

The Trail of Fire - Pyros II

090513.M41
Blood Angels vs Penitent Angels / Inquisition

Hidden away for months within his chambers onboard the Pentitent Angels battle barge, Inquisitor Mannus poured over the heretical book he had uncovered much earlier, the Tome of Fire. He steeled himself against the corruption that poured forth from it and delved into it's secrets. What he found was enough to bring him back into the events unfolding in the Midas Sector. He gathered his forces and set course for the Pyros system.

The ancient tome pointed to something powerful beneath the planets surface. Something which in his eyes could be used to profit the crusade and his own quest for power. Unfortuantely his actions had been foreseen by the psykers serving Inquisitor Lord Butlerian, and when the Penitent Angels arrived they found an Imperial combat team waiting for them.

The combat was locallised to the dig site with both sides manouvering to find ways to cross the open ground between them. In the air, escort craft duelled for supremacy. After both sides suffered heavy casualties, and Mannus himself suffering a grevious injury, the Penitent Angels withdrew to their ship and escaped. When the Blood Angels librarians came to search the dig site they found nothing. Either there was nothing to be found or Mannus had secured it during the heat of battle.

The Dance of Death - Bantis V

020513.M41
Craftworld Iyanden vs Chaos Daemons / Word Bearers.

The Wordbearers have been unable to consolidate a position on Bantis V. Surrounded by enemies and cut off from reinforcements by orbiting wraithships they are slowly whittled away. While the Imperium fought to maintain a foothold against repeated dark eldar raids, the forces of Craftworld Iyanden turn their attention to the underpowered Chaos marines.

Calling upon the aid of Harlequins, the Eldar attack the remaining bastions of Chaos resistance. Two fall within hours, but the third resists all attempts to bring it down. The defenders sacrifice their cultists to open a warp portal and release a host of greater daemons into the mortal universe. This ploy does not work for them and the Eldar slaughter the horde before finally breaching the walls. The Word Bearers are dealt with, and the Eldar look to taking this world for their own.

Butlerian's Wrath - Fangol

020513.M41
Grey Knights vs Dark Angels.

When word of the Grey Knight "losses" on Fangol reached his desk on board the Infinita Anima, Butlerian was enraged. He demanded answers which his adjutants did not have. Calling upon the Emperor's Tarot he learned that there was conspiracy in the ranks of the space marines. Consulting his records he realised that it was only the Dark Angels who held any territory in the Fangol system. Already suspicious of that chapter, he ordered a new force dispatched to investigate but with combat ready troops and orders to get the job done regardless of the circumstances.

The Grey Knights deployed swiftly before the Dark Angels were aware and smashed into their outer defences with ease. The fury of the Grey Knights was unsurpassed when they found the wreakage of their brother's ship not far from the space marine outpost.  Despite putting up a resistance it was impossible to stop them this time. The commander of the Dark Angels ordered a surrender and offered himself for censure. He was taken aboard their vessel and so far has not been heard from since.

Whatever it was that Butlerian learned from the mind scans might never be known, but he has ordered any imperial forces in the sector to watch for the forces of Inquisitor Mannus and report back but not to engage. The Dark Angels recieved a stern warning about withholding information from the Inquisition in the future and that Butlerian would be monitoring the chapter's activites in the sector.

As the might of the Imperium slowly moves to strip the taint of Chaos from the worlds of the Midas Sector, a number of war bands have fallen back to strongholds deep in Chaos territory. Kor Aven feels that to allow this shows weakness, especially as he senses the gaze of the Black Legion on his throne. The vaunted warlord dispatches a task force to teach the cowards a lesson.

Deploying to the surface, the Word Bearers scour the ruined cities for their targets. Under the shell of Hive Carpathia they find The Cleaved, foul Nurgle worshippers hiding in their own filth. The Dark Apostles summon under a force of daemons and assault their camp. Weakened from the battles on Menora IV, the war band are no match for the daemonic assault.

The Dark Apostles of Kor Aven spare most of the war band from destruction but only with the proviso that they return to the front and fight for the glory of Chaos!
