Update #119

"Where there is one brave man, in the thickest of the fight, there is the post of honour."

Blood and Diamonds - Rakdos

Tyranids Vs Harlequins.

The Eldar occupation of Rakdos has come to an end before it really got off the ground. The increasing presence of the Tyranids on the planet means that the world no longer has a tactical position in their schemes. While the main body of the Eldar fled into the webway a force of Harlequins remained behind to cover the retreat at the cost of their own lives. The engagement was short, brutal and lasted just long enough for the Eldar to enter and collapse the webgate. The Tyranid menace was now for the Imperium to handle.

The Battle of Long Shadows! - Volistad

Farsight Enclave vs Orks.

The Battle of Long Shadows took place in a ruined factorum facility in the souther hemisphere of Volistad. The action was fought between 108 fire warriors and 20 battlesuits clashed with a force of 1,500 to 2,500 Orks. The Enclave had arrived just days earlier, constructing a base at a nearby plateau. It soon moved beyond the initial requirements of establishing itself and securing its immediate approaches, beginning operations to open the province. Enclave intelligence had tracked a sizable enemy force moving westwards to a position just north of a ruined spire called the Long Shadow; however, extensive patrolling failed to find them. At 02:43 on the night of 301115.M41, Ork artillery and heavy weapons bombarded the Enclave encampment, before being engaged by counter-battery fire.

Fire warriors took pursuit around midday, clashed with Ork boyz, forcing them to withdraw. Shortly after resuming the advance, they platoon came under small-arms and rocket fire from a flank after drawing ahead of the other units and became isolated. Pinned down, they called for artillery support as a monsoon rain began, reducing visibility. Beginning as an encounter battle, heavy fighting ensued as the advancing horde attempted to encircle and destroy the Tau. After less than 20 minutes more than a third of the fire warriors had become casualties, while the commander was killed soon after. A second squad moved up on the left in support but was repulsed. With the battlesuits facing a much larger force, more fire warriors tried to push up on the right. Fighting off an attack on their right before pushing forward another 100 meters they sustained increasing casualties after clashing with several Ork groups moving around their western flank to form a cut-off prior to a frontal assault. Opening a path to the beleaguered fire warriors yet unable to advance further, they threw smoke to mark their location. Nearly out of ammunition, two devilfish transports arrived overhead to resupply them. Meanwhile, the survivors withdrew to their reserves during a lull, suffering further losses. Still heavily engaged, both squads then moved back to the company position covered by battle suit artillery fire.

The two squads had reformed but was still in danger of being overrun. Help was dispatched in devilfish carriers to reinforce them. Leaving the kill zone, the transports moved east, crossing a swollen creek before encountering elements of the Ork army attempting to outflank a unit of weakened fire warriors and assault them from the rear. The Orks were caught by surprise as the devilfish and their fire warriors crashed into their flank and with darkness falling they broke through. Arriving at a crucial point, the relief force turned the tide of the battle. The Orks had been massing for another assault which would have likely destroyed a good many fire warrior squads, yet the firepower and mobility of the armour broke their will, forcing them to withdraw. Continuing past, the relief force assaulted the Orks, before falling back to command for resupply. The artillery had been almost constant throughout and proved critical in ensuring the survival of the Tau. By mid-afternoon the firing had ceased and the Enclave waited for another attack. However, after no counter-attack occurred they prepared to withdraw 750 metres west. With the dead and wounded loaded onto the devilfish carriers the left as night began to fall, while everyone else departed on foot. A landing zone was then established by the kroot with the evacuation of the casualties finally completed after midnight. Forming a defensive position ready to repulse an expected attack they remained overnight, enduring the cold and heavy rain.

The Enclave army returned in strength the next day, sweeping the area and locating a large number of greenskin dead. Although initially believing they had suffered a major defeat, as the scale of the Ork losses were revealed it became clear they had won a significant victory.  Due to the likely presence of a sizeable ork force nearby the Enclave remained cautious as they searched for the what remained of the enemy. Over the next two days they continued to clear the battlefield, uncovering more dead as they did so. Heavily outnumbered but supported by strong artillery fire, the Enclave held off a najor assault before a relief force of fought their way through and forced the Orks to withdraw. Eighteen battlesuits destroyed and just 24 fire warriors dead, but with many wounded, while the Orks lost at least half their number which were found over the days that followed.

A decisive Enclave victory, Long Shadow proved a major local setback for the Orks, indefinitely forestalling an imminent movement against Farsight's command base and establishing the task force's dominance over the region.

The Enclave Strikes - Volistad

Farsight Enclave vs Orks.

In an unexpected move the might of the Farsight Enclave has descended upon the former Imperial world of Volistad, a world in the mighty grip of the Ork horde. Never before had the Midas sector seen such a force from the renegade faction of the Tau Empire. Led by Commander Farsight himself, the attacking force made short work of the Ork killkroozer's in orbit and then caused utter carnage as they deployed to the surface. The Ork's  did not stand a chance against their impressive might. Within a matter of days the Farsight Enclave had achieved what the Imperium of Man had failed to do in over three years, capture and maintain a sizable portion of Volistad.

Retaliatory Strike - Acastus Prime

Astra Militarum vs Tau Empire

The recent rise in Tau attacks across the sector has forced the Warmaster and his council to divert significant numbers of troops and star ships to the various battle zones. Now however the Imperium must take the fight straight to the heart of the Empire's seat of power, Acastus Prime.

The attack was one of the largest thus far orchestrated in the Crusade. The Cadian regiments deployed with the backup of super heavy tanks, knights and several Titan legions. The Tau weakened by months of conflict with the Dark Eldar were slow to react to the new threat and quickly lost ground as the Imperium captured city after city. Despite this the Tau were not prepared to relinquish their own sector capital to the armies of mankind and regrouped after several days of grueling warfare. For now though the Imperium marches forwards casting the alien forces aside.

The Imperium Triumphant - Fangol

Ultramarines / Craftworld Altansar vs Tau Empire.

Aid for the Ultramarine forces on Fangol has come from a very unlikely source, Craftworld Altansar. With the Eldar hounding the Tau invaders the space marines were able to slam into the Tau lines and inflict heavy casualties. Unable to bring their advanced firepower to bear upon two fast moving armies, the Tau lines soon collapsed. The Ultramarines swept in and began to eradicate the remaining alien warriors. Meanwhile the Eldar of Altansar simply vanished back into the webway from whence they came with no explanation for their unsolicited assistance.

Evacuation - Illiad

Necrons vs Blood Angels

The war for Illiad appears lost. The Necron army is too vast and too powerful for the Imperial forces currently present to handle. A decision has been made at the command level to evacuate all remaining Imperial ground troops from the surface and for the time being, hand the planet over to the machines. In order to facilitate the withdrawl, the Blood Angels chapter has been called in to engage the enemy to allow the evacuation transports to escape.

The space marines engaged the advancing Necron forces initially via a drop pod assault followed up by a wave of thunderhawk transporters. Their assault halted the main thrust of the Necron advance just long enough for the transports to achieve orbit and dock with the main troop carriers. The Blood Angels then fought a retreat back to their own thunderhawks and likewise evacuated. Only a handful of brave marines and guardsmen remained to hamper the Necrons until the end but for now Illiad was another jewel in the new Necron empire.

Update #118

"You know, just once I'd like to meet an alien menace that wasn't immune to lasguns.
- Private Tobias, 669th Cadian.

The Battle of Helicon City - Illiad

Astra Militarum vs Necrons.

The Battle of Helicon City stands out as the finest display of an offensive battle in the wars for Illiad. It was this battle which saw the climax of the recent Necron invasion of the Midas Sector. The Necron Army invaded Helicon City on 121115.M41. Their primary objective was to capture the city and surrounding areas which had strategic importance for both the Necrons and the Imperium.

Before the capture of Helicon City by Necron forces, this western sector was under Imperial control. Similar to earlier in the war, plans were made to capture this strategic location. The reason behind this plan was to deter the Imperial forces from attacking the crucial north-south line of communications passing via the Grugat Canyon. A huge force of Necron warriors was given the task of protecting this sector and later attacking the neighbouring sectors sectors. On the Imperial side, the 699th Cadian was given the task of defending the city; the Astra Militarum believed that by attacking the Necron forces at Grugat, they could guarantee the defence of Helicon City.

The battle ended in an Necron victory, with their forces taking control of the city. The Necrons gained about 450 square miles of Imperial territory. The 699th Cadian put up stiff resistance at the spaceport and at several defensive locations. They withdrew when the commanders realised Helicon City could not be held.

Update #117

"You cannot exaggerate about the space marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most fercious warriors in the universe, and the amusing thing is, that they are." - Aun'Shi, Tau Ethereal.

Blood Bath - Callista VI

Blood Angels vs Thousand Sons.

The attempted recapture of the sector's shrine world has finally collapsed with the arrival of Ahriman and his Thousand Sons. manifesting from the Warp itself, the evil chaos marines of Tzeentch assaulted the Imperial forces from the rear crushing them between the Thousand Sons and the Black Legion. The Astra Militarum, already weakened from months of grueling warfare, were not match and swiftly cut down. Only the might of the Blood Angels stood to resist them but it was not to be. By the use of eldritch sorcery, the foul servants of Tzeentch did cast aside all who opposed them.

Warmaster Xerxes' advisors fear that this change of tactics for Ahriman means that he has reconciled his differences with Abaddon. What this means for the future of the Crusade occupies the thoughts of all who fight the scourge of Chaos.

The Empire Returns - Fangol

Tau Empire vs Ultramarines.

The Tau Empire has announced it's intention to take ownership of the Fangol system. A company of Ultramarines was dispatched to halt their invasion and keep the Imperium from losing another world to it's enemies. By the time that the space marines reached the system the Empire had already made an unchallenged planetfall.

The Ultramarines followed standard protocol and launched a drop pod assault into the Tau lines. The Empire was now used to this move and had prepared an ambush for the incoming space marines. Many pods were shot down and those which did reach the surface came under a heavy fusillade of fire, costing many lives. The chapter was forced to launch air strikes in order to provide some cover for their brothers on the surface but it was not enough. For now the Tau had laid claim to the surface and it would a hard won fight to defeat them.

Wednesday, 14 October 2015

Defensive Line - Rakdos

Imperial Fists vs Craftworld Alaitoc

As the Blood Angels fought to hold back the Tyranid horde on Rakdos itself the Imperial Fists space marines fought to hold the Eldar craftworlds at bay. Along the Volstoy Ridge, the Imperial Fists had constructed a mighty bulwark and from this line they would hold them back.

The battle was fierce as the Eldar sent wave after wave of jetbikes and flyers in against the wall first and then assaulted their lines with guardians and aspect warriors. The space marines fought to defend the line. After three hours the Eldar had taken significant casualties that they retreated, and the space marines took the opportunity to pursue. Many Eldar were cut down that day and the Craftworld forces took heavy damage.

The Hive Returns - Rakdos

Tyranids vs Blood Angels

Another wave of hive ships from Hive Fleet Amorak have reached the Rakdos system and the organisms quickly overrun the outer worlds. The planetary defence forces call for aid and it comes swiftly on the wings of Sanguinious. The space marines of the Blood Angels launched an assault on the first wave but were repulsed by sheer numbers. The Midas Sector had never faced a Tyranid horde of this size before.

The Blood Angels then launched an attack against the alien menace on the outer moons of the system. Due to the sheer numbers of organisms the Blood Angels firepower proved ineffective so the marines assaulted the Tyranids, engaging in the fierce mayhem of close combat. The Blood Angels were again unable to hold the alien menace at bay, and slowly, across the system, they overran the strongholds of man and alien alike.

Tuesday, 6 October 2015

Supply Raid - Rakdos

Space Wolves vs Farsight Enclave.

On this date a resource desperate detachment from the Farsight Enclave made planetfall on Rakdos and quickly captured three supply stations and one promethium mine. The Imperial defenders launched a series of air strikes to dislodge them but the damage was minimal as they could not risk damaging the stock piles of vital supplies. A company of Space Wolves present on the surface, also to rearm and resupply, launched an attack to dislodge the aliens. The supply stations fell to the space marines swiftly but an assault on the mines required careful planning.

The final battle began with two squads of terminators teleporting successfully into the lower mine workings and fighting their way up forcing the Tau out into the open where the rest of the company awaited them. Once the aliens were pushed into the open the Space Wolves released a savage battle cry and battle was joined. Savagery prevailed and the Enclave pirates were put down within hours.

Enclave Valiant - Crastus

Farsight Enclave vs Orks.

The Enclave refuses to let the Orks defeat their invasion of Crastus. After a briefly delay while they awaited for the arrival of the Enclave fleet they returned en mass to the surface of the planet. Once they held a sizeable landing site the Enclave launched it's war against the greenskins.

The Enclave inflicted casualties on Ork outposts across the outer wastes. The Ork retaliated by launching an massive counter attack effort to eliminate Enclave ground troops who had been surrounded after the attack. To relieve forces almost cut off , the Enclave then counter attacked attempting to push the greenskins back and relieve the troops caught this way. As the war escalated the Orks found themselves unprepared and forced into a temporary holding position while the Enclave continued to deploy forces across the surface of Crastus.

Thursday, 1 October 2015

Bloodbath - Volistad

Blood Angels vs Orks.

An invasion force of three Blood Angel's companies, deployed to the surface of Volistad in another attempt to capture and defeat the Ork command. The Orks fell back, leading the space marines into a trap. When the Blood Angels pursued the Orks closed the net around them and launched a massive assault which the Blood Angels barely managed to survive. This became a standard operational method for the Orks and it soon became apparent that these Orks were far more cunning that most. Repeated attempts to retake the space port failed leaving the Imperial forces high and dry.

Might of the Ork Horde - Crastus

Farsight Enclave vs Orks.

As suddenly as the newly arrived Enclave army had driven back the Imperial forces they found themselves under heavy assault by the very orks that the Imperium had been fighting just days before. With little time to form a defensive position, the Enclave ground troops waged a brutal series of hit and run attacks across the front. Their attempt to sow confusion into the Ork horde failed terribly and only served to enrage the greenskins even further. Soon, the Orks had driven the Tau off world and looked close to claiming Crastus for themselves.

Farsight Invasion - Crastus

Dark Angels / Imperial Knights vs Farsight Enclave.

The Imperial retake of the Crastus system has been thwarted by the sudden arrival in system of a Farsight Enclave invasion force. Swiftly an alliance was made between the Dark Angels chapter and a house of Knights tasked with eradicating the Eldar threat on the planet. Assisted by the Knights, the space marines launched themselves into the Enclave lines. The plan being to hold the enemy at bay long enough for the Imperial reinforcements to arrive. Alas no help came the three Knights were systematically wiped out by a detachment of impressive battle suits. The Dark Angels were then forced to withdraw leaving large swathes of territory in alien hands.

The Hook - Volistad

Blood Angels vs Orks.

Elements of the Blood Angels chaoter were engaged in fierce fighting to prevent the Ork forces from gaining ground. One such action took place at a feature called "the Hook", a crescent shaped ridge not far from the Ork command fortress. There had been two previous engagements at the Hook earlier in the war when first the Ultramarines, and later the Black Watch regiment, had successfully held the Hook against Ork assaults upon their arrival the following month. This ridge was a place of tactical importance in the sector.

The Ork forces charged the space marine positions once the bombardment ceased. The fighting that ensued was bloody and akin to the battles that the Blood Angels had fought during the war for their homeworld Baak. Artillery shells rained down on the Hook, from both the Imperial and Ork forces. The Orks launched a second attack but were cut down by heavy weapon fire. Further attacks occurred during the day, but all were defeated in heavy fighting

Imperial Forces Repulsed - Volistad

Astra Militarum vs Orks.

On 260915.M41 at 4 am, following two days of preliminary air strikes, the Imperial bombardment intensified across the 30 km front held by the greenskin horde. At 5 am, the guns and howitzers of the Astra Militarum extended their firing range to allow for the infantry to advance behind a rolling barrage. The concentrated bombardment succeeded in clearing the foliage on Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge, destroying most of the above-ground fortifications on the two positions.

As the guardsmen approached the Ork defenses, they were met with a fusillade of heavy weapon fires. Unable to safely advance, guardsmen were forced to rely on close-support artillery to subdue the Orks, but a complex network of bunkers and tunnels allowed the Orks to bring up reinforcements as the above-ground troops were depleted.

The Orks managed to inflict heavy casualties on the attackers, but their defenses were starting to give way under devastating firepower. The defending Orks was forced to withdraw into the tunnels. Even so the Imperial battalions suffered heavy casualties. When only partial progress could be claimed by the late afternoon, Imperial attacks subsided and preparation of defensive positions to face a Orks counterattack began.

Against the Hive - Pyros

Space Wolves vs Tyranids

The Imperium has recaptured Pyros and has begun to rebuild the defences. New colonists are on route to repopulate the planet. As usual in the Midas Sector things do not stay peaceful for long and Pyros has become the latest world to lay in the path of the Tyranid hive fleet. As the shadow in the warp begins to spread across the world the Space Wolves, who had been resupplying since the retake of the world, began to organise a defence.

The initial Tyranid assault began with the arrival of spore pods filled with smaller gaunt organisms. This force was defeated by the space marines who had had ample time to prepare the planetary defences. The Space Wolves then consolidated and prepared for the arrival of the main Tyranid attack force.

Update #116

"You may win this war, Commander, but I promise you, when it is over, you will have lost so many ships, so many lives, that your "victory" will taste as bitter as defeat." - Abaddon the Despoiler

Death to the Xenos - Thule

Astra Militarum vs Tyranids.

The last of the Tyrnaids have been driven back out of the great cities and into the wastes beyond. The Hive Mind was trying to regroup and reinitialize the horde. In that moment of pause, the combined forces of the local PDF launched a counter attack with decimated the larger organisms and robbed the hive of it's synapse. From there it was almost child's play to mop up the smaller organisms.

With Thule finally cleared of the alien aggressors peace once more fell upon the benighted world. Even as the armed forces breathed a sigh of relief and turned their attentions to rebuilding the defences, something dark and malevolent continued to monitor the human population and planned an invasion of it's own.

Friday, 25 September 2015

Wrath of Fenris - Hermes IV

Space Wolves vs Black Legion.

An intensive air raid was carried out on several places around Abaddon's fortress base. The Black Legion responded by  throwing a battalion-sized force to pin down the advancing Space Wolves. Before the night was over six additional companies joined in the action. The Black Legion held firm and inflicted heavy casualties upon the attackers.

The tide of battle turned when the Space Wolves received reinforcements from their orbiting spacecraft. Wave after wave of drop pods and support craft plunged from the skies. Despite their numbers the Black Legion suffered terribly at the hands of these new Imperial aggressors. Slowly they found themselves pushed back into the confines of their own fortress, pursued by rabid wolves and enraged space marines.

By days end the fortress had fallen and was in Imperial hands. Despite a through search no trace of the Despoiler was found. The search continues and it will not end under Abaddon is defeated!

Battle of Bloody Ridge - Hermes IV

Blood Angels vs Death Guard

Across the sector the war against the forces of Chaos has been largely successful. Abaddon's forces been whittled away by constant warfare and ferocious infighting. Under Warmaster Xerxes' command a task force was dispatched to bring the fight to them. The righteous fist of the Blood Angels chapter was the first to arrive.

The second company made the first strike. They succeeded in capturing most of the ridge where a foul Death Guard fortress lay, although it took a week of hand to hand fighting. It was a short lived victory for the chaos marines soon launched a mighty counter-attack.

The next Blood Angel attack was led by the third company and lasted ten days as the Death Guard repulsed one assault after another. After repeatedly being driven back, the third company succeeded in capturing one of the Chaos fortress after two days of heavy fighting. The weather then turned to almost constant rain, greatly slowing the attacks and bogging down tracked vehicles.

Fighting continued and the casualties mounted on both sides. Ultimately the combination of frontal attacks, flanking movements and incessant bombardment by artillery, tanks and airstrikes, decided the battle. Finally, over two weeks since the battle started, the Death Guard abandoned the fortress and fled.

Dawn of War - T'Vora

Tau Empire vs Orks.

The battle of the Orthan Flats was a major engagement between the forces of the entrenched Tau Empire and the invading ork menace. The fighting occurred during the Tau Spring Offensive and saw the them establish blocking positions in the Kapyong Valley, on a key route south to the planet's capital. Two forward battalions occupied positions astride the valley and hastily developed defences. As thousands of ork boyz began to withdraw through the valley, swarms of boyz infiltrated the Tau position under the cover of darkness, and assaulted the Tau positions during the evening and into the following day.

Although heavily outnumbered, the Tau held their positions into the afternoon before they were finally withdrawn to positions in the rear of the valley, with both sides having suffered heavy casualties. The Orks then turned their attention to the fire warriors on the flats, but during a fierce night battle they were unable to stop them. The fighting helped blunt the Ork offensive and the actions of the Tau and their Kroot allies were important in assisting to prevent a breakthrough on the central front. The two Tau companies bore the brunt of the assault and stopped an entire greenskin division during the hard fought defensive battle. The next day the Orks withdrew back up the valley, in order to regroup.

Update #115

"If you're going to go to war against a major enemy, go; knock the hell out of him fast, and go in there to kill him and get it over with." - Brother Ulus, Blood Angels chapter.

The Return - T'Lau

Blood Angels vs Tau Empire

The Tau Empire has returned to T'Lau and in greater numbers than before. Spreading out through the system they launch a number of attacks on Imperial installations. When at last they broke through the planetary defence perimeter and deployed their fire warriors the Imperium was waiting for them. The Blood Angels space marine chapter lay in wait and staged an ambush as soon as the Tau hit the surface.

Across T'Lau the alien invasion was halted and thrown back. The Tau fleet withdrew to the edge of the system and waited. The Imperial navy moved to engage but the fleet led them a chase until they pulled back to defend T'Lau. But out there the Tau waited and planned for another invasion attempt.

Death to the Emperor! - Callista VI

Traitor Guard vs Dark Angels

The Imperial advance across the graveyards of Callista VI has come to a halt once more. This time the threat has come from within their own ranks. Several regiments of Astra Militarum revealed their colours and turned traitor, throwing their lot in with the forces of Chaos. Two former allied regiments were killed before the rest realised the situation and reacted.

Assistance was called for and help arrived in the form of the Dark Angels chapter, fresh from the front lines against Chaos. The space marines engaged in the ruins of the former command bunker using their terminators to start the attack. The traitor guardsmen were ready and prepared for the inevitable Imperial counter attack, especially from the space marines.

The traitors began by using their heavy weapons to bring down any land speeders and heavy vehicles. Then they turned their lasguns upon the Dark Angels. Outnumbered five to one, the Dark Angels fought bravely but the sheer mass of firepower thrown their way pushed them back time and time again. Eventually the orders were given to withdraw and regroup. But this would be a dark day for the Imperium and it's quest to recapture this world for the Emperor.

This World is Ours! - Grimlock

Thousand Sons vs Tyranids

Abaddon's new plan of attack seems to be seeding the worlds of the Midas sector with as many marines under his command as possible. Although a lesser target in the bigger scheme of things, Grimlock has been chosen as the target for a detachment of Thousand Sons and allied chaos marines. Their first target however, was not the expected Eldar or Necron forces but rather the alien Tyranid hordes.

In the heart of alien ruins deep within the flesh-eating jungles, the two armies stalked one another. The tyranid forces were lightly armoured gaunts and similar organisms, while the Chaos marines brought with them hulking daemons engines which the tyranids could not handle. What few truly monstrous creatures there were soon died to massed fire power and eldritch sorcery.

From the heart of the Thousand Sons lines emerged dread Ahriman who followed the Despoiler's orders not out of a sense of loyalty because he sought some ancient relic hidden deep inside one of the alien pyramids. With it in his grasp he dispatched the army to eradicate all threats to their rule here on Grimlock.

Update #114

"There are things you can't fight - acts of the universe. You see a hurricane coming, you get out of the way. But when you're in a Titan, you can finally fight the hurricane. You can win."
- Adolphus Brun, Warhound titan pilot.

Infighting - Hermes IV

Black Legions vs Night Lords.

Once more the forces of Chaos have begun to turn upon themselves. On Hermes sporadic fighting has broken out between the Black Legion loyal to Abaddon, and elements of the Night Lords legion. The cause of the civil war is unknown to Imperial analysts but the outcome was very much in the Imperium's favour as the forces of Chaos slowly whittled each other away.

Friendly Fire - Callista VI

Astra Militarum vs Space Wolves.

In an unfortunate incident a detachment of Astra Militarum opened fire upon a company of Space Wolves in an area of Callista called the Angelis Segmentum. Fearing that they were Chaos Marines, the guardsmen simply opened fire and the engagement began. The encounter was brief but the damage was done and by the end many space marines were badly wounded or killed. The Imperial commander in charge was held responsible and executed as a warning to others.

Monday, 7 September 2015

Update #113

"The Space Wolves revere the Emperor as the greatest warrior of all time, the only being to have ever bested Leman Russ in hand-to-hand combat. When Space Wolves call upon Russ or the Emperor in battle, it is to witness the deeds of men and to judge the fallen."

Blood Among the Tombstones - Callista VI

Black Legion vs Blood Angels.

In the days before this engagement the Black Legion had arrived and taken command of the Chaos forces present. They attacked and captured three vital landing sites. From these locations they launched airstrikes against the Imperial lines. After recent engagements against both Orks and Daemons, the Astra Militarum were becoming demoralised and aid was requested from the space marines. The bloodied Blood Angels responded.

The Black Legion moved a sizable force through the necropolis in preparation for battle. Imperial navy bombers targeted their landing sites not realising that they were no longer necessary to the Chaos war effort. Unfortunately the largest bombing effort in the current war proved destructive but pointless.

The Black Legion command were unimpressed with the Imperial bombardment and expected the defenders to be easily broken. When the Blood Angels came to the defenders aid they were outnumbered four to one. Many of their numbers wounded or slain by the recent altercation with the Space Wolves. The engagement was brief with the Blood Angels being forced into a defensive force, allowing the Astra Militarum to retreat back to their aegis lines. By the time that the space marines pulled back to resupply, the forces of Chaos had captured much territory and reports soon came in that the Black Legion had launched surprise attacks on the few working power generatorums, further weakening the Imperial war effort.

Rabid Wolves - Callista IV

Space Wolves vs Blood Angels

The dark sorcery which compelled the Space Wolves to attack their allies on Midas Prime has risen again. Enhanced by their passage through the Warp, the foul magic has turned this company of Space Wolves into rabid berzerkers. When the strike cruiser Hel's Grasp appeared above Callista IV the Imperial forces below thought that aid had come to assist their recapture of this world. They were very wrong.

The Space Wolves began their frenzied attack by dropping into the heart of the Blood Angels 4th company. They roared from their drop pods, blood specked foam spilling from their lips, and smashed into their allies. The Blood Angels fought a defensive engagement desperate to keep their battle brothers alive. The Space Wolves fought like warriors possessed, cutting through the Blood Angels with ease.

Many hours later the insanity lifted as suddenly as it appeared. The Space Wolves fell to their knees and cried for forgiveness from the Emperor for being weak. The Blood Angels captain almost called for them to be brought before the Inquisition but instead demanded that the Space Wolves take their rage against the enemies of mankind. In the following days the Space Wolves were instrumental in driving the last of the Orks from the planet. They then put themselves forward for a repentant crusade and would not return until the forces of Chaos had been driven from the Callista system.

The Tau Strike Back - T'Lau

Ultramarines vs Tau Empire.

The Tau Empire, ever determined to recapture their lost territory have returned to T'Lau. Tha Tau were successful in inflicting severe casualties upon the defenders which allowed them to capture a number of strategic locations and give themselves a safe landing site far from enemy artillery. The attack lasted for over a month with the Astra Militarum being constantly on the backfoot. Already weakened and exhausted from recent attacks on the planet they were ill equipped to handle such a large scale invasion.

Then suddenly and expected, a storm of drop pods descended from the skies into the heart of the Tau command. Battle brothers from the Ultramarines chapter emerged and engaged the Tau. Elsewhere they deployed via thunderhawk transports to the outer defences of the Imperial defenders. While the veterans sought to slay the alien leadership, these new arrivals launched attacks into the outer lines. Confusion and panic spread throughout the Tau military and they retreated back towards their command. The Ultramarines pursued, never giving the xenos the chance to regroup or resupply. When the Tau commander fell, slain in single combat with the Ultramarines captain, the Tau lines collapsed. The Astra Militarum then moved in to mop up the stragglers and routed fire warriors. It took the Ultramarines several more swift strikes to finish off the last Tau present on T'Lau but their attempted invasion failed but they would return.

War Games Gone Wrong - Midas Prime

Ultramarines vs Space Wolves.

While the Imperium begins to cleanse and rebuild the cities and infrastructure of Midas Prime, the planet's greatest defenders organize some war games to test their mettle in friendly combat. But Chaos has not left the planet undefended and the Space Wolves trigger a sorcerous trap left for them by the sorcerers of Tzeentch. The mighty Space Wolves are tricked into believing their opponents are traitorous Chaos Marines and release the full force of their ferocity upon the Ultramarines. Once the initial surprise wore off the Librarians of the chapter quickly realise what has happened and successfully free the Space Wolves from the enchantment. The Space Wolves are repentant and retreat to their ships, heading back into battle seeking to redeem themselves.

Blood in the Snow - Bantis V

Black Legion vs Tyranids.

A rag-tag fleet of traitor forces fleeing the loss of Midas Prime have arrived in the Bantis system. Deploying to the surface the chaos marines immediately ran into the Tyranids swarming the surface. Forced into an escalating combat situation the Black Legion were initially put on the back foot but they soon turned the tide of battle. Slowly the Tyranid biomass was pushed back along multiple fronts allowing more of the traitor legions to land on Bantis.

Update #112

"The ultimate determination in war is the man on the ground with a gun.
This man is the final power in war. He is in control. He determines who wins." - Warmaster Xerxes

Tzeentch Triumphant - Infernus

Thousand Sons vs Necrons

Abaddon has dispatched a force of chaos marines to reclaim his old seat of power at Infernus. First to deploy were the Thousand Sons who successfully used dark magic to shroud their ships from the orbital weapon platforms. Once on the surface the automaton marines of the legion marched in huge numbers towards the Necron constructs. The machines now aware of their presence mobilized and marched to war.

Although it is not known to Imperial war scholars exactly how the Thousand Sons were able to defeat and overpowered the Necron army, the traitor legion managed to do just that in a matter of hours. Maybe the diminishing energies of the dead daemon world assisted them with daemonic allies or maybe Imperial reconnaissance was corrupted.

The forces of Chaos now had a fresh hand hold on their former home world and with it, more and more traitor marines and cultist war bands reached the surface ready for a new war.

The Emperor's Wrath - Callista IV

Gray Knights vs World Eaters

Imperial forces have finally arrived in force to forcibly reclaim the shrine world for the Emperor. The Grey Knights lead the attack and bring their wrath to the World Eaters chaos marines. Despite the victories over the Blood Angels in recent weeks the chaos marines suffered heavy casualties almost from the start of the invasion. The Grey Knights set to the enemy with bolter and blade, smashing through the enemy with righteous fury. Even as the servants of the Blood God mobilised heavy weapon teams the Grey Knights teleported into position to engage them before they could open fire.

With the berzerkers slain or routed the Imperium now had the means to launch their crusade to reclaim this world.

Renegades Suffer Major Defeat- Ventara

Craftworld Altansar vs The Fated.

The Fated, under command of Lieutenant Karrson Merradon, launched another supply raid seeking vital supplies. This time the war band targeted the world of Ventara. While searching the old Tau ruins they were detected by a ranging force from the Altansar Craftworld. The Eldar succeeded in sneaking close to the ruins and taking out the sentries with ease. Before the Fated marines could form too much of a defence the Eldar launched a swift attack. Flights of jetbikes and grav tanks swooped through the ruins all weapons firing. The fast moving Eldar pushed the chaos marines back further and further until they were caught between the fast moving vehicles and the infantry. One by one the Fated fell until only Lieutenant Karrson Merradon remained standing. Cursing the aliens, he activated an emergency teleport device and returned to his ship, eager to depart the system.

Update #111

"Primary systems are hit. We've got fire on all decks now.
There's nothing we can do except..[static]"

Lost in the Storm - Infernus

Farsight Enclave vs Necrons

Blown off course buy a burst of ectoplasmic energy from the remains of Warpstorm Midas, a Farsight regiment has found itself in the vicinity of Infernus. No longer a world of living flesh, Infernus has become a calcified wasteland illuminated by patches of green light from the new Necron tomb structures. The oribital defences opened fire, destroying six of the Enclave ships. The remaining seven took enough damage that they plummeted through the atmosphere. Of those only two survived slamming into the surface.

The Tau survivours knew that they would have to fight if they were to have any chance to live. Powering up the remaining suits and vehicles, they emerged into the gray wastes to find the crash site surrounded by the unliving machines. It became a vicious firefight in which the Enclave were able to deal significant damage but their lack of mobility caused them considerable trouble. The Tau managed to fend off the Necron defenders for the better part of twenty six hours but as their numbers dwindled, the Tau found the battle impossible to win. What few fire warriors who escaped were soon hunted down and eradicated.

Reign in Blood - Callista VI

World Eaters vs Blood Angels.

The Imperial command has received a missive from the Ecclisarchy. The holy church of the Emperor demands that the Callista system be recovered from the hands of aliens and heretics less they call for a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Warmaster Xerxes. Unwilling to anger the holy church, Xerxes orders a task force to head to Callista and reclaim that world at all costs.

The vanguard was a force of marines from the Blood Angels chapter of space marines, who deployed from orbit into the Chaos lines. Among the ruins of a vast cathedral the chapter faced off against a sizable company of World Eaters traitor marines. After the first few shots, both armies clashed in close combat among the ruins. The tide of battle was in the hands of the World Eaters however, and they cut down the Blood Angels with ease. Eventually the space marines were forced to retreat and await the arrival of the Imperial reinforcements.

Meanwhile the daemonic hordes were moving in to eradicate the last of the Ork presence on the planet.

Update #110

"During your little war, you drove away your traitors, oh yes, but you did not think to clean up your mess. If a few of them came to Volcanis, well, where is the harm in that, yes? You want to see the harm? Do you? There is the legacy of your war!" - Commander Farsight

Enclave Forces Routed - Volcanis

Thousand Sons vs Farsight Enclave.

Aid has come to the Night Lords in the form of a Thousand Sons war band. The two legions come to an agreement and the servants of Tzeentch take the war to the Enclave. Across a vast no man's land the two armies exchange fire before the Thousand Sons begin to march forward, warded by their esoteric sorcery. Once in close range the chaos marines surge forward to engage the enemy in hand to hand fighting. Eventually the Enclave forces were cut down or retreated back into orbit.

Madness Rising - Illiad

Blood Angels vs Grey Knights.

There have been concerns that the encounter between the Blood Angels and World Eaters some time ago has had an unnatural effect upon the Blood Angels stationed on Illiad. A company of Grey Knights have been dispatched to investigate. They determine that the Blood Angels have succumbed to the rage common to their lineage. For the safety of others, it is determined that they must be destroyed. Forced to fight their own allies, the Grey Knights took down the enraged Blood Angels. The bodies returned to the chapter as a mark of respect.
